We made the Skyward Sun Hoodie because we couldn’t find what we actually wanted to wear. It’s become the piece more people are reaching for than anything else we’ve made.
That response matters because this product is the embodiment of what SMBL is trying to do: identify a real gap, obsess over the details, and build something better for long days outside.
The gap we kept running into
Most sun hoodies force a tradeoff. Heavy enough for protection but too hot to keep on all day. Light enough to feel good at first but not built to hold up through sun, sweat, wind, and repeated use.
They work in short windows. They do not always work across the full arc of being outside.
We wanted a sun hoodie that could cover more ground. Something protective enough for exposed conditions, breathable enough to keep wearing, and comfortable enough to become the layer you stop thinking about once you are moving.
Built for protection without the penalty
The Skyward Sun Hoodie delivers UPF 50+ sun protection and full coverage without the weight, bulk, or stiffness that usually comes with high-coverage layers.
It is built to manage heat, move moisture, and feel natural against the skin. The goal was not to add more features. The goal was to remove friction.
Fit, fabric, construction, and finish were all considered through real use. We worked with world-class material and manufacturing partners to create a technical sun hoodie that feels easy enough to wear every day but performs when conditions ask more of it.
Shaped by the Northern California coast
This product came from the places we move through most: Marin, Mt. Tam, Rodeo, Stinson, fire roads, surf checks, paddles, and long days where the weather can shift by the hour.
Those landscapes shaped the product. High sun, cool wind, coastal fog, exposed trails, and changing conditions make it obvious what works and what does not.
The name Skyward comes from that perspective. Looking up and out. Reading light, weather, and terrain. Staying present in the place you are moving through.
Why it works
The Skyward Sun Hoodie works because it was built from use, not trend. It solves for sun, heat, movement, and time in one layer.
It is not just a sun protection piece. It is a long-day layer. The one you throw on early, keep on longer than expected, and reach for again the next time you head out.
A product designed and tested on the Northern California coast so you can stay immersed in the landscape without your gear pulling you out of the moment.
