Peru has been growing cotton for over 5,000 years. The coastal valleys north of Lima produce Pima cotton with extra-long staple fibers — twice the length of standard cotton — that result in fabric that's softer, stronger, and more durable than anything you've worn. The fiber

Extra-long staple. That's the whole secret.

Not all cotton is the same. Standard Upland cotton — the kind in 93% of cotton products — has fibers that measure about 3/4 of an inch. Peruvian Pima cotton fibers grow to over 1 3/8 inches, sometimes exceeding two inches. That difference is everything.

Longer fibers spin into smoother, tighter yarn. Smoother yarn creates a denser, more consistent fabric. That fabric resists pilling, holds its shape, and gets softer with washing instead of falling apart. It's also naturally breathable, moisture-wicking, and hypoallergenic — without any synthetic treatments.

Peruvian Pima is considered the gold standard. The coastal valleys of Piura and Chira provide the ideal climate — consistent sun, seasonal rain, fertile soil. And unlike machine-harvested cotton, Peruvian Pima is picked by hand, preserving the full length and purity of every fiber.

Extra-long staple fibers produce a smoother, silkier yarn. The fabric feels noticeably better than standard cotton from the first wear — and keeps improving.

Most cotton supply chains span multiple countries and dozens of intermediaries. Raw cotton grown in one country, spun into yarn in another, woven in a third, cut and sewn in a fourth. Traceability is nearly impossible. Accountability disappears.

Our Foundation collection works differently. Every step — growing, harvesting, spinning, knitting, dyeing, cutting, sewing — happens in Peru. The entire supply chain is GOTS-certified and Fair Trade verified. We know who grew the cotton. We know who sewed the shirt. And every step in between is documented and auditable.

Our cotton is cultivated in the coastal valleys of Peru — no pesticides, no synthetic fertilizers, no GMO seeds. Peru bans GMO cotton entirely.

Harvested by hand
Every boll is hand-picked to prevent fiber damage. Machine harvesting breaks fibers and introduces impurities. Hand-picking preserves the full length and purity of each strand.

Spun and knit locally
The cotton is spun into yarn and knit into fabric within miles of where it was grown. Vertically integrated production means full traceability and minimal transport waste.

What it actually feels like

First wear
You'll feel the difference immediately.
Peruvian Pima cotton has a hand feel that most people mistake for a blend. It's not. It's 100% cotton — just better cotton. The long-staple fibers produce a smoother, denser fabric that feels substantial without being heavy.
Six months in
Still no pilling. Still fits.
Standard cotton tees start showing wear after a few months — pills around the collar, stretched out shape, faded color. Pima cotton's longer fibers resist all three. It holds up through regular rotation.
Year two
Your favorite shirt. The proof.
This is the test most cotton fails. After two years of consistent wear and washing, Peruvian Pima cotton is still holding its shape, its color, and its softness. It actually gets softer. That's the long-staple difference.
Against your skin
Hypoallergenic. No chemicals.
Organic certification means no pesticide residues touching your skin. Pima's naturally smooth fiber structure reduces irritation. If you've ever reacted to a 'cotton' shirt, it was likely the chemicals — not the cotton.

Things worth knowing.

What makes Peruvian cotton different from regular cotton?
Fiber length. Standard cotton fibers measure roughly 3/4 inch. Peruvian Pima cotton fibers exceed 1 3/8 inches — roughly twice the length. That extra length means a smoother yarn, a softer fabric, and dramatically better resistance to pilling and wear. Peru's coastal valleys also provide ideal growing conditions, and the cotton is hand-harvested to preserve fiber integrity.
What does GOTS certified actually mean?
GOTS stands for Global Organic Textile Standard. It covers the entire supply chain — from how the cotton is grown (no pesticides, no GMOs) to how it's processed, dyed, and sewn (no harmful chemicals, fair labor practices). It's the most comprehensive organic textile certification in the world. Our supply chain was among the first in Latin America to achieve it.
Why does hand-picking matter?
Machine harvesting breaks cotton fibers and pulls in leaves, stems, and other debris that have to be chemically processed out later. Hand-picking preserves the full length of each fiber and produces a naturally cleaner, whiter raw material that needs less processing. It's more labor-intensive, but the quality difference is measurable.
Is organic cotton as soft as conventional cotton?
Softer. Organic growing methods don't expose fibers to the chemical breakdown that synthetic fertilizers and pesticides can cause. Combined with Pima's naturally long staple length, organic Peruvian cotton is smoother and more consistent than conventionally grown alternatives at any price point.
Why is the Foundation collection more expensive than a standard tee?
Three reasons: the cotton itself (Peruvian Pima costs substantially more than commodity cotton), the production method (vertically integrated, GOTS-certified, Fair Trade), and the garment dyeing process (more expensive but produces a better result). You're paying for a shirt that will last years, not months — and that was made without cutting corners on materials or people.
